praise-defeat-sm.jpegAbdellatif Laâbi is the major Francophone voice of Moroccan poetry today. Shaped by struggle and the pain of exile, the expressive simplicity of In Praise of Defeat, the latest collection to be published by Archipelago Books, reflects  a resilient, embracing spirit grappling with political and spiritual oppression. At this event, translator Donald Nicholson-Smith and scholar Robyn Creswell will explore the lifelong evolution in style and meaning of this esteemed poet.

Organized with Archipelago Books; part of the Sant Jordi in New York Festival organized by The Farragut Fund for Catalan Culture in the U.S. and the Catalan Institute of America
